I'm almost ashamed to admit it but I remember the 80's, big hair, skin tight hot pink biker shorts, and all.(that's what the guys were wearing) But to me one of the few cool things to come from that era of Reaganomics was the NES(the Nintendo Entertainment System to you youngsters)I remember when me and my brother first got our very own. Oh happy day, we could finally enjoy the high tech 8-bit goodness from the comfort of our living room on our lo-def 27 inch bubble screen TV. I missed the NES, sure the graphics suck by today's standards and the cartridge socket wore out very fast leading to various pseudo-voodoo rituals to getting it to work, but the games were fun and simple to play and there were only 2 buttons on the controller so you can pretty much bet that A was jump and B was some kind of attack or made you run faster.(have you seen a modern game controller? way to many buttons) I don't own a video game system and haven't since the SNES in the mid 90's. To me most newer games aren't any fun, I guess because since I've been out of the loop so long the learning curve is just to steep. I generally get frustrated or bored after playing at friends houses' and end up just watching them play. So the NES is still just my speed.
Any how, I was online the other day and I found a great free emulator that allows you to play NES games on your computer and a site that you can download a crap ton if not all the NES games ever made, also free. The only thing you really need to buy is a USB controller, and you can pick one of those up for $15-$20 at Walmart. Not a bad deal really $20 for 900+ games and piece of your youth.
I have personally downloaded about 160 games so far and am having a blast rediscovering this forgotten jem from my past.
Here are the addresses, enjoy.
